Teodosio Magnoni

He was born in Offanengo in 1934. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bergamo. In 1959 he moved to Rome, where he intensely frequented the artistic avant-garde.

At the beginning of the Seventies he carried out research aimed at highlighting not the occupation but the emptying of space. It was in this phase of his research that the transition from painting to sculpture took place.

Since then he has been engaged in the theoretical elaboration and empirical realisation of the concept of the transformation of space into place and of sculpture as place in itself, alongside an intense reflection on the signifying void.

His first solo exhibition was in 1965 at the La Salita gallery in Rome. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1976 and 1978, and the Rome Quadrenniale in 1986.

He held anthological exhibitions in important places in Italy and abroad. He has created large sculptures for the FAO Palace in Rome, for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Maglione, for Fiumicino airport, for the Guardia di Finanza barracks in Campobasso, for the Giovanni XXIII Gallery in Rome, for the Albornoz Museum in Spoleto.

He has been a member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca since 2009. He will die in 2021.
